Rosamund Pike was 'just another Gone Girl' to author Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn "didn't know" who Rosamund Pike was when she cast her for Gone Girl. The British actress takes on the lead role of Amy in the movie adaptation of the author's best-selling novel, out in cinemas next month. Starring alongside Rosamund is Ben Affleck as her onscreen husband Nick, who the film focuses on, after his wife mysteriously disappears. “Ben was who I wanted from the beginning,” Gillian told New York Post's Page Six. “[But I] didn’t know Rosamund that well.”

'She came in with... sticky notes [and] some great thoughts. She was ready to go'

However, the 35-year-old beauty was keen to impress the writer with her knowledge of the story. Rosamund even brought her notes with her after landing the in-demand role

“[She] had done all her homework," Gillian added.

“She came in with... sticky notes [and] some great thoughts. She was ready to go.”

Rosamund previously spoke about how she and Ben worked together to portray the novel accurately for the silver screen. The pair shared many ideas while bringing the relationship between Amy and Nick to life.

"We really dissect - we put a marriage under a microscope, don't we? From the giddy, early days," Rosamund said after a screening of the movie as part of New York Film Festival's opening night.

"It's a film about intimacy, really, and the wonderful things that go with intimacy, and the treachery that can come with intimacy, when you know someone so well that you can just screw every little nut."

Ben too chimed in with his outlook on the themes explored, and how it relates to real life.

"The book asked really hard questions about marriage and relationships. It didn't want to gloss over the things we don't like to look at in others and in ourselves. Sometimes you find out ugly things when you ask hard questions," he added.
