A South African mother, who lives in Hastings, New Zealand, appeared in the Napier district court after her eight-year-old son died in a car motor car accident earlier this year.
Kim Crous (38) allegedly failed to slow down for a 300 m queue of stationary cars, and her Mazda smashed into the back of an SUV on the Hawke’s Bay Expressway, The New Zealand Herald reported.
The impact pushed both vehicles forward by 25 to 30 metres and her son James, whom loved ones called "Balla", did not survive the crash.

Kim has been charged with dangerous driving for causing the crash. James’s younger sister and the woman in SUV were also injured.
The case has been postponed until 2 November.

The family, who moved to the country nine years ago, were devastated after James’ death.
“Dear Jamsie, we will always remember your beautiful smile, big hugs, and soft heart,” his grieving parents said in a statement.
“We know that you are safe in heaven. We love you Balla, love Dad, Mum and Emma.”

The family’s pastor from Basics 4 Life church, Derik Kotze, spoke earlier this year of how friendly James was and how he was always willing to lend a hand.
After the accident friends of the family set up a page on a fundraising website for loved ones from around the world to make donations.
A large number of local residents express their concern for the fact that there were so few warning signs on the road – where the accident took place - to alert motorists of the 30km/h speed limit due to road works.
