Jessica Simpson's father has undergone surgery to treat prostate cancer.
Joe Simpson, who used to manage the careers of his singer/actress daughters Jessica and Ashlee, was diagnosed with the disease two months ago, but is now in recovery after an operation.
His representative tells People.com the 58-year-old is coping well under the circumstances.
"He's feeling great now and is optimistic," a source tells the website. "He has felt so much love and support from his family and friends."
Joe's recovery is reportedly going so well, he will be heading to Japan to shoot the cover photo for Nation-Alist magazine, among other campaigns. The news comes after he unveiled his first photo exhibit, Dream Works, in Los Angeles earlier this year. At the time, he told People, "I've always loved being behind the camera. I was even the photographer at my own wedding when I was 19! There is something about taking pictures that makes me happy, and it has always been a hobby for me." Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, who have yet to comment on their dad's health crisis, were both on hand for the gallery launch in May. The exhibit included arty shots of the stars, and Joe admitted accompanying his girls to their photo shoots earlier on in their careers helped him pick up a few useful camera tips from the professionals.
"As their father, I have obviously been familiar with seeing them in front of the camera and at hundreds of shoots," the former pastor said. "So it was a very cool and proud moment to be shooting them as Joe the artist, not just their dad!"
The girls have remained close to their father following his divorce from their mother, Tina, in 2013. The couple split after 34 years of marriage.
