Midlife updates on vehicle ranges are usually unremarkable but the new-look Accord stands out with its extensive safety features.
But more significant is the array of standard safety features on the top-spec Exclusive model.
It has a radar-deployed collision mitigation system (able to automatically apply the brakes if an impending collision is sensed), adaptive cruise control that keeps the distance to the vehicle ahead constant, and lane-keeping assistance.
This offers up to 80 per cent of the steering torque to keep the vehicle strictly between the painted lines.
Combined with the clever cruise control the automatic version can virtually drive itself.
In addition Executive models are also fitted with bi-xenon headlamps with active cornering and a useful auto-dipping feature for drivers who are frustrated by frequently having to flick the headlights between dim and bright.
Its styling may be a little staid but that’s par for the segment. In terms of reliability and rand-for-spec value the Accord gives the Germans more of a run for their money than local buyers give it credit for. That’s a real pity.
