SA’s very own mentalist will make you believe in magic!

He can bend forks in front of your eyes and name your mother without knowing anything about you -- or her. All you need to do is think of her name and he plucks it right out of your head. He can also make you think he's touching your arm when he isn't anywhere near it and perform card tricks to baffle the most brilliant mind. In fact, Larry Soffer is so good at what he does even the most cynical of cynics are left with a sense of wonder -- and a goosebump or two -- after watching him in action. And you can watch him in action! Scroll down for a video...

You know The Mentalist on TV? Well, Larry is South Africa's answer to that guy. He even calls himself a mentalist -- that and an illusionist. And the illusions he creates are, frankly, mental.

Now 33, the Cape Town-based magician's talent for tricks was evident from an early age and by the time he was 13 he enrolled at the College of Magic to study the elusive tools of the trade. Four years later he graduated with the prestigious Silver Medallion - the highest accolade given by the school.

Larry was then awarded a prestigious Siegfried and Roy Masters of The Impossible grant to further his studies in Las Vegas under the tutelage of Siegfried and Roy, the world famous German magicians.

His stay in the States was a successful one: he was invited to perform at the renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood - making him the first South African ever to showcase his skills at the revered venue and, at 23, one of the youngest magicians to perform there.

While his hair-raising, mind-reading, metal-bending antics have earned Larry some serious stripes, he hopes he can reach others by conveying a deeper message through his acts. His mantra is 'believe to see', he says - not 'seeing to believe'.

He wants to make people believe anything is possible if you can put your mind to it. In which case: come here, fork...

Larry visited YOU HQ for a special live broadcast on 8 September. This is what happened:
