This morning The Daily Mail, London Evening Standard, The Irish Times, The Independent, The Telegraph and several other newspapers published the two identikits which police had compiled following statements made by two witnesses who’d seen the man in the vicinity of the McCanns’ holiday home in Praia da Luz, Portugal, at the time of four-year-old Maddie’s disappearance in May 2007. The two identikits are believed to be of the same man.
The Daily Mail says both identikits show a man with an intense look and a faint smile. The man apparently speaks German, is 20-40 years of age, has short brown hair, is of medium build and length, and is clean-shaven. According to the Daily Mail, Scotland Yard says the man is of “cardinal importance” to the Maddie investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood told the media the man might be key to the investigation and “it’s of cardinal importance that we find him and talk to him. We have witnesses who can place him in the vicinity of the resort at the time of Maddie’s disappearance”.
“It’s not our only line of investigation. We also have identikits of other people who were seen on the day Madeleine disappeared as well as in the days before her disappearance,” Redwood said, according to the Daily Mail and London Evening Standard.
The Irish Times reported that Scotland Yard has already interviewed more than 400 people and that 41 people have been identified as important to the investigation.
In an episode broadcast today the BBC programme Crimewatch will show a reconstruction of what might have happened on the night of Maddie’s disappearance, as well as an interview with her parents, Gerry and Kate. -Hilda Fourie Share your thoughts:
