Shucks, the secret's out! Leon Schuster's got some exciting news

accreditation

The secret is out. Old Shucks wants to get South Africa laughing again – but from beyond our borders this time.

“We haven’t revealed this yet but we’re planning to go to England in March next year,” says actor and movie producer Leon Schuster. “We want to shoot a movie with South Africans living in London and Birmingham in it – another candid camera film. There are thousands of South Africans living there.”

We recently bumped into Leon at the relaunch of Nu Metro Hyde Park in Johannesburg, where the first four-dimensional super-movie theatre (4DX theatre) has opened.

“It’s to make it a little different,” Leon says of his plans to make fun of people in England. “Otherwise you get caught in the habit of doing the same thing.

"So my friend Shorty (Alfred Ntombela) and I will fly to England next year – and I’m sure the fun will start during our flight,” Leon says with a laugh.

At the end of last year he told Afrikaans newspaper Beeld that he and estate agent Amanda Coetzee were planning to become engaged. So how do things look on the love front?

“Very stable,” Leon says. “We’re still not engaged.

“We’re waiting for the right time. It will come. We each have our own reasons for not wanting to become engaged now. As adults we decided on it together.

“We’re still together but waiting for that right, right moment. I reckon the right moment must be in Paris, France, or Venice in Italy or some such grand place,” he says with a sparkle in his eye. “Where it can be nice and romantic.”

And what about England? “Yes, maybe,” the funnyman says with a belly laugh.
