There’s nothing fragile-looking about the woman who opens the door for us. Bonang Matheba is relaxed and confident as she ushers us into her plush two-bedroom home in Hyde Park, Johannesburg – a rare concession, especially in light of the unpleasantness surrounding her private life.
Earlier this year the stylish TV presenter’s relationship with 5FM DJ Euphonik (31) imploded publicly when she laid a charge of assault and domestic violence against him.
It’s in this apartment that their dramatic final showdown took place but there isn’t a hint of vulnerability about Bonang (25) today as she shows us around her immaculate home – she’s every inch the gracious hostess.
But as we’re about to settle down for the interview her cellphone rings. She’s forgotten all about a voiceover she was scheduled to record at Joburg’s YFM radio station, where she hosts a weekend show.
She hastily departs after arranging to meet us at 10 the next morning and leaves her friend, who goes by the name Oros, to let us out and lock up.
