Singer Lulu Dikana passes away

Last night social media was flooded with rumours that local songbird Lulu Dikana had died. This morning Lulu's management at Sony Music Entertainment confirmed the tragic news.

The sister of X Factor judge Zonke Dikana, who was in the throes of promoting her new album I Came to Love, was forced to cancel a show at  Skyroomlive in Braamfontein on December 5 after falling ill.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected and tragic loss of soul songstress Lulu Dikana who passed away last night [Wednesday] after a short illness while being treated in hospital," Sound African recordings said in a statement on behalf of her family.

"Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and all her fans who came to know and love her through her music."

It looks as though Lulu had been in hospital for the past few days. On Tuesday, sister Zonke tweeted, “That moment when you r visiting a hospital then your song suddenly plays in the hospital waiting area.”

Lulu recently featured as the opening act for he Joburg shows for John Legend during the SA leg of his All of Me tour.

Funeral details would be made available as soon as they had been finalised.
