Sisters’ grim cleaning business


Roelien Schutte (33) and Eileen de Jager (35) often leave people feeling queasy when they’re asked what they do for a living.

Like the sisters in the 2008 movie Sunshine Cleaning, they clean crime scenes.

Wherever there’s been a suicide, family killing, farm slaying or other multiple murder, chances are you’ll find them on their knees at the scene removing blood and human remains from carpets.

But the two women are far from depressed by their work.

They’re salt-of-the-earth people who love to crack jokes and firmly believe their lives have gained deeper meaning since they started doing this job. Supporting people in their hour of need is their calling, they say.
