Stephen Collins’ estranged wife reportedly claims he “lied” about abusing young girls.
On Tuesday TMZ published a tape recording in which the 67-year-old actor is allegedly heard confessing to molesting three preteen females between the ages of ten and 13 years old. The audio is said to have been secretly recorded while Collins was in a therapy session with his estranged spouse, fellow thespian Faye Grant. The outlet is now reporting Grant made contact with one of Collins’ victims via email in 2011, one year before she filed for divorce from the actor after 27 years of marriage. "Stephen lied when confronted 12 years ago. He said he had a hole in his holey jeans, as was the style then, and you 'must have' seen his genitalia one time,” Grant is quoted as writing in the online message obtained by TMZ.
‘There is a formal complaint on file and the incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Special Victims Squad’
"Stephen is not remorseful, shows no guilt, and his shame is demonstrated as extreme self pity. He wails and cries, 'I'm in so much paaaaaain!!!'"
Apparently the victim Grant is communicating with reached out via an anonymous letter in 2000 to inform her Collins is a child molester. The email excerpt is supposedly referring to a confrontation Grant had with her husband after she received the unsigned message 14 years ago.
The New York City Police Department confirmed to FOX411 an investigation has been launched into Collins’ molestation accusations.
“There is a formal complaint on file and the incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Special Victims Squad,” a law enforcement official told the outlet.
Apparently the unidentified woman Grant communicated with in the past is fully cooperating with authorities on the matter. According to TMZ, she told officials she’d sometimes stay with Grant and his first wife Marjorie Weinman, whom he was married to from 1970 to 1978, at their New York City apartment when she was ten years old.
Sources claim the alleged victim revealed during a police interview Collins would often come into the room she was staying in dressed nothing but a towel. He would then “expose himself and several times put her hand on his penis” and “would also touch and rub on her”.
In the admission tape published Tuesday, Collins is heard saying he did indeed put a victim’s hand on his penis at least once.
Following news of the scandal, Collins has since been fired from his appearance in forthcoming feature film Ted 2 and he has also resigned from the SAG-AFTRA board, according to Variety.
The actor first shot to fame in 1996 after appearing on hit family TV show 7th Heaven opposite Jessica Biel. Collins portrayed devoted family man Reverend Eric Camden in the programme, which aired its final season in 2007.
He is father to 25-year-old daughter Kate, who he shares with Grant.
