A picture tells a thousand words, the saying goes – and if that’s the case the future looks rosy for the future British king and the woman he’s soon to make his wife.
At the recent official photoshoot with Mario Testino – the Peruvian-born photographer who was a favourite of Princess Diana – Prince William and Kate Middleton looked just as you’d expect an engaged couple to look: in love.
In their official portrait they snuggle up close, smiling radiantly and appearing natural and comfortable with each other – in sharp contrast to the official engagement photographs of Wills’ relatives.
“If you look at the pictures taken of other royal couples over the years it’s little wonder their marriages didn’t last,” a British royal commentator says.
Look at Charles and Diana – William’s parents couldn’t have looked more stiff and uncomfortable if they’d tried. Diana may have hooked her hand through Charles’ arm but there’s nothing relaxed about that hand.
And Charles looks as if he has a ramrod shoved down the back of his jacket. When a reporter asked them if they were in love Diana replied, “Of course.”
But Charles uttered the now infamous remark, “Well, yes, whatever it is that love may be.”
