James Brewster (9) of Armagh in Northern Ireland’s beloved silver bicycle was the last valuable gift which he received from his late father, Phelim (43).
On Monday 28 November the little boy’s world fell to pieces – his precious silver bicycle was gone.
His mother Una Magee Brewster, immediately made a moving plea on Facebook, explaining exactly why the bicycle is so precious to her son.
“You have caused more heartache to a child who tomorrow will be remembering the nightmare which unfolded one year ago to the day...one that NO child should ever experience, that of losing his father.”
Una continued to write the bicycle was a gift from his father and finished off her post with: If you have a heart at all return the bike please and nothing more said....
Was the bicycle perhaps stolen by someone in her friendship circle or was the thief perhaps told about the post by someone who saw it?
The post was shared by more than 1 000 people. There were also tons of requests to replace the bike – but it would not have been the same one he was gifted...
On 1 December she announced the “miracle” on her Facebook page.
Someone had returned James’s silver bicycle!
“What a beautiful ending to this story and one I had faith was going to happen,” she wrote alongside a video of James emotional reunion with his precious bicycle.
Una said it was the first time in days that James cried.
And what did James have to say? He told The Belfast Telegraph that he couldn’t believe the bike was really in front of him.
“I thought I was dreaming. It's the last thing my dad gave to me as a present.”
