This could be why you constantly feel anxious

It may not be as obvious as you think, so here we take you through some lesser-known causes and how you can move past them.

It's not unusual to hold onto advice given to you as a youngster, from 'be careful' to 'don't do anything I wouldn't do'. While these mantras apply to many areas of life, it's best to assess your situation properly before deciding what to do rather than worrying and sticking to the script. If such sayings stop you from moving forward, go about switching them up to a more positive outlook, like 'I'll never know if I don't try'.

The same idea goes for being restricted by your own thoughts. Repeating a negative notion over and over in your head is bound to result in a sense of fear and concern over something which really doesn't need over-thinking. For example, if you're invited out for a drink on a week night despite having an early start the next day, you may get it into your mind that if you drink you'll oversleep and run late for work. But remember, this is just an idea, not reality; set your alarm earlier than normal and follow it up multiple alarms to ensure this doesn't happen.

Let a thought stay a thought rather than turning it into your behaviour.

An important part of keeping anxiety at bay is getting plenty of rest. Feeling run down can lead to feelings of stress, especially if you think you may be letting others down. Your health and wellbeing are a top priority and if that means having to finish a task the next day so you can get an early night, then so be it. Follow your instincts if you feel tired and be open to people rather than fearing how they'll see you. After all, the better you feel, the better you'll be at everything else in life.

Lastly, it's important to view yourself in a positive light. By constantly telling yourself you're not capable of something, it will only make the task at hand more difficult and anxiety-filled. To give yourself that boost of confidence, go through past achievements and note what skills you learnt/used. All it takes is some TLC and if you struggle, don't be afraid to ask others for a bit of help on your positive qualities.
