Thousands of Venezuelans have been using a mobile phone application to find toilet paper.

The app, entitled Abasteceme - which means "Supply Me" in English - has been downloaded more than 12,000 times by people in the South American country as toilet roll is in short supply.

On the app, people can let their compatriots know which supermarkets still have toilet roll in stock.

Creator Jose Augusto Montiel said: "Lots of things are in short supply, but what people are most worried about is finding toilet paper. People never knew how much they needed it until it started running out."

Economists have blamed price controls imposed recently for the shortages.
