Student protests across SA became increasingly violent today, as police and protesters clashed on several campuses. In a video allegedly taken at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, protesters can be seen lifting and overturning a car, which reportedly belonged to campus security.

The students then flee after what sounds like gunshots ring out.

Tear gas is now being used on campus.

Similar scenes played out at the University of Pretoria, where protesters forced the gates open.

Earlier students had climbed over the fences to gain access to the campus.

At the University of the Witwatersrand, stun grenades are being used against protesters.

Several students at the University of the Free State have been arrested.
