Sly and Arnie couldn’t stand each other for 20 years and although they’re now friends, the pair believe this feud helped make them successful.
The Hollywood tough guys – who star together in new action thriller Escape Plan – think two decades of rivalry helped to shape their careers and gave them the motivation they needed to become two of the biggest action stars of all time.
Speaking on the red carpet at the film’s premiere in New York City recently, Sylvester said, “[We] really disliked each other intensely for 20 years. It goes to show, a good enemy is hard to find. Eventually you sort of appreciate [them]. Maybe the reason we were so competitive was because it made us get to where we are."
Sylvester (67) and Arnold (66) played several jokes on each other while filming at one of the buildings of space agency Nasa in America, with one prank even leading to them being strip-searched by security guards at the building.
"We worked on a Nasa base,” Sylvester said, “and I call the gate and go, 'There’s some suspicious stuff going on in a black van’ . . . They literally strip-searched [Arnold]. Then he got me back and I was strip-searched. [Arnold] is constantly goofy.” Bang Showbiz Share your thoughts:
