SAY it ain’t so! In the upcoming 25th season of The Simpsons a character will be killed off and, according to bookmakers Ladbrokes, most people are betting on Abe Simpsons biting the dust.
Show producer Al Jean hinted at who it may be. “I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character but I won’t say who it is.”
Of course it’s not a clue that makes spotting the actor easy! The show has won 25 Emmys for voiceover work since 1992 and some of the actors voice more than one character. It’s easier to say who hasn’t won an Emmy on the hit animated show: Harry Shearers who voices Mr Burns, Waylon Smithers, Reverend Lovejoy, Kent Brockman, Lenny, Principal Skinner, Otto Mann, Rainier Wolfcastle, and Ned Flanders will be safe. The last character to be killed on the show was Maud Flanders (wife of the Simpsons’ holier-than-thou neighbour Ned), who died 14 years ago when she was knocked off a grandstand after being fired at with a shirt cannon.
