The offending party, who isn’t named, took matters into her own hands because she didn’t like her son’s custom-made wedding band, Mirror reported.

“I’m beginning to realise that my MIL [mother-in-law] would rather be the one married to DH [dear husband],” the wife wrote on Reddit.

She goes on to reveal that before she and her husband walked down the aisle, her mother-in-law had requested to see their wedding rings.

“We were both really excited to show her. I was able to get barrel staves from the very first brewery we ever visited together and a ring maker I’ve been obsessed with for years made them into bands for us,” she explained.

But it turns out her mother-in-law didn’t approve of the couple’s choice and decided she would purchase wedding bands for her son – a decision which would, in time, distress his new wife.

“A couple of weeks ago, MIL asked [my husband] what ring size he was and as he was working, he answered and went about his day . . .

“I got home from work to a small package on the porch addressed to [my husband]. He didn’t order anything and we thought maybe it’s a delayed wedding gift? Who knows? He opens the package to a note from MIL and a men’s band.”

The note which read, “saw the band and thought of you . . . I think it’s much more your style than the band you have,” left a rather bitter taste in the wife’s mouth, prompting the couple to return the gift.

But that wasn’t the end of the matter.

“We get to her house on Sunday . . . [and I] REALLY don’t want to have a conversation about how inappropriate she was regarding our band.”

The persistent mom, with the box in hand which contained the gifted ring, asked her son why he’d returned it.

“He explained that our rings meant something to us and he didn’t care what she thought about it because she wasn’t the least bit involved,” the wife wrote.

“He also warned her to not pull a stunt like that again and that she’s already lucky she wasn’t put in time out.”

Well, that’s a way to put a nosy mother-in-law in her place.
