She became famous after publication of Brother of the More Famous Jack and today Barbara Trapido stands in nobody’s shadow. The same can be said for her books, each a delightful read with characters waiting to entertain and beguile you.
Trapido, who grew up in KwaZulu-Natal, has been living close to Oxford in the UK for nearly five decades.
Her parents and her husband worked as academics and she once told Britain’s The Guardian newspaper she’d always thought “being good at writing” meant doing a Ph D. But once the characters of the Goldman family moved into her head she simply had to set them free on paper.
Trapido is in SA to take part in the Franschhoek Literary Festival (13-15 May, www.flf.co.za) and we’re making the most of her visit.
At our special book event in Cape Town and Gauteng YOU’s book editor, Jane Vorster, will interview Trapido on her latest novel, Sex & Stravinsky, and her writing career of nearly 30 years.
On top of that you’ll be treated to a delicious meal and have the chance to have your book signed by the author. So don’t delay – it promises to be a wonderful day by any book-lover’s standards.
* Sex & Stravinsky will be on sale at the event at R100.
