Young Asanda wows on Britain’s Got Talent

Asanda Jezile emerges on stage to audition for Britain’s Got Talent in a red checked dress, jeans and sneakers. The 11-year-old London schoolgirl is wearing some visible make-up paired with an innocent and friendly smile. But it’s her performance that blows the judges away.

The pre-teen daughter of South African expats who’ve lived in the UK for 14 years wowed the crowd by performing her rendition of Rihanna’s Diamonds, complete with dramatic and well thought-out dance moves,  which had judge Alesha Dixon in awe, her mouth gaping open. And at the end? A standing ovation from the crowd.

Her stage presence and talent fared well with the judges. Known as the “nasty judge”, Simon Cowell even loved her performance: “I’ve never seen anyone who’s got such amazing stage presence for an 11-year-old. I mean – you’re seriously, seriously good and you have the best smile I have ever seen.”

And it seems the talent is inherited. Just a day before Asanda’s impressive performance her father, Luyanda Jezile, an accomplished singer, performed at the Freedom Day reception at South Africa House, the SA High Commission in London on Trafalgar Square.

In footage recorded behind the scenes before the audition we see Asanda cock her head from side to side, gesturing Beyoncé’s signature hand move from her music video Put a Ring on It, proclaiming proudly, “I’m a little bit of a diva.”

The young girl says she’s inspired by music industry favourites  Rihanna and Beyoncé. And commentators have suggested her performance was too sexual for her age.
