The couple caused a stir when they hit the red carpet in 1997 with matching haircuts but the actress says they didn’t set out to look like twins – it happened by accident.

In an effort to promote a new haircare range for her Goop product line, Gwyneth Paltrow (48) sat down with her assistant, Kevin Keating, to discuss three of her most iconic looks from the ’90s, and one of them was the his-and-hers matching haircuts she and Brad Pitt showcased at the premiere of his movie The Devil’s Own.
Many assumed the power couple, who were engaged at the time, had done it deliberately but in her Instagram video interview, Gwyneth insists it just sort of happened.
"We went to the same stylist for the cut. Chris McMillan cut both of our hair like this," the Iron Man actress says.
Once they realised what had happened, they decided to just embrace it by wearing matching black outfits on the red carpet.
But sadly despite their co-ordinated looks the relationship didn’t last and they broke up a few months later.
In an interview with Vogue in April, Gwynnie reflected on her romance with Brad (now 57).
“He was so nice and we were a very ’90s couple,” she said.
Gwyneth and Brad started dating in 1994 after playing a married couple in the hit movie Se7en. They got engaged in 1996 but split the following year.
Brad was 34 at the time and Gwyneth just 25. She later revealed that although she knew she was too young to be getting married, the break-up was really tough.
"It really changed my life. When we split up, something changed permanently in me. My heart sort of broke that day, and it will never be the same," she told Vanity Fair in an interview.
Coincidentally, Chris McMillan was the stylist responsible for creating the iconic “Rachel cut” Jennifer Aniston rocked in the first few seasons of Friends. Brad went on to marry Jen, followed by Angelina Jolie whom he split from in 2016.
Meanwhile, Gwyneth married Coldplay star Chris Martin (44) in 2006. They divorced in 2016 and she’s now married to TV writer and producer Brad Falchuk (50).
