Rumors of the couple getting a marriage license had barely cooled when, all of a sudden, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck had tied the knot in a midnight ceremony in Las Vegas!
The couple, who famously called off their engagement in 2004, rekindled their romance in 2021, got engaged earlier this year, and exchanged vows in Las Vegas this weekend.
They had a “small, fun and casual” ceremony at the famous A Little White Wedding Chapel on Saturday. “It was super, super small. They just wanted to be married so they got married,” a source told People.
The Marry Me actress confirmed the news with an Instagram picture of her beaming as she showed off her wedding band. “Sadie! #iykyk Go to OnTheJLo for all the deets. #linkinbio,” she captioned the post referring to her website where she shared more wedding pictures and details.
“We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” she wrote in her post on her website.
Bennifer 2.0 is the romance that has us believing in second chances and happily-ever-afters!
BEEN THERE, DONE THAT
Back in the early 2000s Bennifer was couple goals with a capital C and G. They even made a movie together and, yes, Gigli was a cringey cock-up of a film but their love was the star prize.
Yet unrelenting global attention became too much and they buckled before they could make it to the altar. They went on to concentrate on their careers – and it was a mixed bag for both.
Jen had misses with 2007’s El Cantante and 2010’s The Back-Up Plan and you’ll also be forgiven if you can’t remember a song from her largely ignored album, Rebirth.
But success came with 2019’s Hustlers and her All I Have Las Vegas residency grossed more than $100 million (about R1,5 billion) in its 120-show run.
Ben had bombs with the crime drama Live by Night in 2016, which he directed, and The Last Thing He Wanted in 2020 was a flop too – although The Town in 2010 and 2014’s Gone Girl were more successful; as was Argo, which won the Oscar for best picture in 2014.
THEY'VE HAD THEIR KNOCKS
Ben has been open about his booze battle and admitted he drank excessively when his marriage to Jennifer Garner, the mother of his three kids, was falling apart.
“Then you do more of it to make that discomfort go away,” he said. “Then the real pain starts. It becomes a vicious cycle.” They divorced in 2018. Jennifer’s love life was troubled too: her marriage to singer Marc Anthony, the dad of her twins, Max and Emme, collapsed in 2011.
Would Ben and Jen ever find lasting love?
THE ROCKS THAT SHE GOT
Ojani Noa (1997)
Cris Judd (2001)
Marc Anthony (2004)
Alex Rodriguez (2019)
THEY’VE PLAYED THE FIELD
JLo hooked up with baseball hottie Alex Rodriguez and it seemed all systems go for a while. They got engaged, he loved her kids, she loved his. Then his infidelities reared their ugly head and it was all over.
Meanwhile, Ben got hot and heavy with actress Ana de Armas, but in the end his addiction issues became too much for her. Ben went to rehab again, sorted himself out and realised he still carried a torch for Jen.
Soon that torch had become a red-hot flame and they were in each other’s arms once again. “I think we’re strong enough now to know what’s real and what’s not,” Jen said in an interview with People. “Now it’s up to the two of us what our life is going to be.”
BLENDED FAMILY
The lovebirds have been spotted house-hunting around LA for a luxury pad for their combined brood of five. Jennifer has 14-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with ex Marc Anthony; while Ben and ex-wife Jennifer Garner have Violet (16), Seraphina (13) and Samuel (10).
Jennifer acknowledges that bringing their children into this new chapter is “delicate” and raising four teens and a tween will have its challenges.
“But I honestly believe that love rules all,” she says. “Love always conquers everything and everybody benefits when you’re in a good, healthy relationship.”
