His father is one of the most famous actors in the world and every titbit of his life is thrust into the spotlight.
But Jack Depp could care less to share in dad Johnny Depp’s fame and prefers to remain unseen and unheard. Recently, however, a rare photo of Jack, born Johnny Christopher Depp III, appeared on social media – and it's clear the 19-year-old has a fan following of his own.
Clad in a yellow T-shirt with his brunette locks tied up into a messy ponytail, Jack threw his arms up in the air while he stood among a blossoming meadow.
The image was shared on an Instagram fan page.
"You're so handsome," one follower commented. While another thought Jack resembled his 57-year-old dad: "You look just like your father. Watch out ladies! A young Johnny Depp coming through for sure."
But don't get excited too quickly because Jack has no intentions of following in his dad's footsteps. The teen has largely remained out of the public eye, choosing to lead a much more private life than his famous family members.
In a previous interview with GQ magazine, Johnny opened up about how having his personal life under public scrutiny has affected his son and his daughter, Lily-Rose, whom he had with his ex, French actress and model Vanessa Paradis.
In 2018 when allegations of domestic abuse were first levelled against him by ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor said it hurt his kids the most.
“I’m sure it wasn’t easy for my 14-year-old boy to go to school; you know what I mean?” the Pirates of the Caribbean star told the publication.
“With people going, ‘Hey, look at this magazine, man. What, your dad beats up chicks or something?’
“Why did he have to go through that? Why did my daughter have to go through that?”
Although he followed in his dad’s footsteps by acting in the 2016 comedy horror Yoga Hosers, Jack has largely remained out of the public eye.
His sister Lily-Rose, however, has taken up acting but says the value of privacy was instilled in her from an early age by her famous parents.
“Growing up in a family like I did, I always learned the importance of privacy and valuing that and keeping things just for yourself,” the actress said during a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.
“And that's something I've carried on into my career and that's really important to me.”
Lily-Rose added that she never sought fame when she opted for a career in Hollywood – something she learnt from Johnny.
“[Fame is] a silly side-effect of what we both really love doing. I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we just really, really love our jobs,” she says of her and her dad.
The 21-year-old also came to his defence regarding his legal battle involving Amber.
Johnny was removed last year from his role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 after losing a defamation case he had filed against The Sun for calling him a “wife beater” in its publication.
“You can't be perfect all the time,” Lily-Rose says.
“Nobody's perfect. Period.”
