The couple kept the pregnancy hush-hush – so it was a total surprise when news broke of the birth of their baby boy.
Taking to Instagram, Ewan McGregor’s eldest daughter Clara (25) broke the news of the arrival of her father’s fifth child, who’s apparently named Laurie.
“Welcome to the world little brother,” Clara wrote in a post which showed her cradling the newest addition to the family as she congratulated Ewan (50) and his partner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (36).
Ewan’s 19-year-old daughter Esther also penned a sweet message on Instagram.
“Met my little brother looking like a pirate [a reference to the stripey top she was wearing]. I recommend! Welcome to the family little Laurie,” she captioned the post.
Along with Clara and Esther, the Big Fish actor has two other daughters, Jamyan (20) and Anouk (10), with his ex-wife Eve Mavrakis.
It was splitsville for the pair in 2017 after Ewan was spotted kissing his Fargo co-star Mary, which resulted in very lengthy divorce proceedings that were only finalised last year.
It’s taken his daughters a long time to come to terms with the presence of the new woman in his life.
After a fan posted a photograph of Mary on Instagram in 2018, describing her as “the most beautiful and talented woman on earth”, Clara didn’t mince her words.
“Oh man y’all are delusional. The girl is a piece of trash,” she wrote.

But she later apologised for her post, hinting that the family had been under a lot of strain.
“There had been a lot building up to it and a lot to deal with – not to make excuses or anything – but, yeah, it wasn’t my finest moment,” she admitted.
But judging from Clara’s latest post about her sibling, it seems like it’s all water under the bridge.
While the new arrival means that Ewan is now a dad of five, for Mary it’s her first child.
She was previously married to American filmmaker Riley Stearns but split from him in 2017 shortly before her relationship with Ewan became public knowledge.
