He's the toast of the TV world, the latest actor to step into a role that’s as much a British institution as putting the kettle on for a cup of tea. And Ncuti Gatwa is still pinching himself to make sure the fact that he’s the new Doctor Who isn’t all a dream.
“It feels amazing,” he says. “This role is so iconic and it means so much to so many people, including myself.”
The news that the 29-year-old had landed the coveted role broke on the day of the Baftas, where Ncuti was nominated for a part that saw his fortunes change forever: playing Eric Effiong in the hit Netflix series Sex Education.
