Four months after her shock split from Alex Rodriquez, Jennifer Lopez has finally made their break-up Instagram-official.
Earlier this week the 52-year-old superstar, who has rekindled her romance with actor and director Ben Affleck, erased all traces of her relationship with Alex from her page.
The retired baseball player does, however, appear in a handful of her videos that aren’t centred on him, including a Father’s Day tribute she shared in June 2020, a clip of the two speaking to President Joe Biden in October 2020 and another post dedicated to her mother, Lupe, on her 75th birthday in December 2020.
In addition, the JLO Beauty founder unfollowed her ex-fiancé. But A-Rod (46) is still following Jennifer and has kept photos of her on his Instagram page.
The Hustlers actress began dating Alex in early 2017 and the pair got engaged in March 2019. They cancelled their wedding plans because of the pandemic but by March this year it was all over.
Despite ongoing rumours that Alex had been unfaithful, the pair were adamant that their separation was amicable and drama-free.
“We’ve realised we’re better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the exes said in a statement to the Today show. “We’ll continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children.”
The ink on their joint statement had barely dried when Ben (49) was seen being picked up and dropped off at Jen’s Los Angeles mansion. Just days later the couple, who enjoyed a high-profile romance in the early 2000s, confirmed their rekindled romance when they were pictured on a romantic getaway at Ben’s Montana bolthole.
“My sources tell me there’s a lot of pain and rage when it comes to this breaking up and breaking off the engagement,” Hollywood columnist Rob Shuter said on his Naughty But Nice podcast.
“Jen might look happy to be back with Ben, but deep down she’s still got a lot of pain.“
[My sources] have said Jen is very angry at Alex for what he did when they were engaged. Remember all the cheating rumours.”
Her once-warm feelings towards Alex reportedly soured even further when he decided to holiday in Saint-Tropez – where he flaunted his new romance with sports presenter Melanie Collins (35) – while Jen and Ben were there.
Eyewitnesses say at one point the superyacht Bennifer chartered sailed beside Alex’s much smaller vessel, The Ocean Paradise, near a Monaco port. On a separate occasion the former athlete and his new flame were seen jet-skiing around Ben and Jen’s rented $130 million (R1,9 billion) yacht.
It seemed like odd timing for the singer and former athlete to be in the same location, but an insider has since shed light on why they came to be within yelling distance of each other.
“Jen and Alex had planned to go to the French Riviera for J Lo’s birthday this year and neither of them changed their plans.”
Her birthday falls on 24 July and his on 27 July, so it made sense to make a big deal of the trip. But when they split up, Alex (46) figured he’d still go.
“Alex didn’t know Jen would still be going but he wasn’t fazed when he found out her boat was nearby,” the source adds.
He might not have minded being in such proximity to his former fiancée and her new beau, but those close to Jennifer’s team say she was irked.
The former exes narrowly avoided bumping into each other after they made separate bookings at the same restaurant, swanky Bagatelle St Tropez.
“Her assistant turned up to check everything was okay, and there was A-Rod having lunch,” a source says. “She alerted J Lo and the reservation was quickly cancelled.”
Seems the Riviera is too small for exes who get back with an ex.
