The singer took us down memory lane when she shared snaps and videos of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes moments on her Instagram page yesterday, exactly a year after her electrifying half-time performance at one of the biggest events on the US sporting calendar.
Jennifer Lopez joined Colombian singer Shakira on stage and at one stage was even joined by a surprise performer: her then-11-year-old daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz, who belted out a few notes alongside her mom.
While her performance was lauded by many, some viewers where a bit turned off by JLo and Shakira’s show, which took place halfway through the Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs’ face-off.
There were over 1 300 Federal Commission Complaints lodged against the pair, who were seen strutting their stuff in slinky outfits.
“The halftime show was the furthest thing from a ‘family-friendly’ broadcast as possible,” one complainant wrote. “The depiction of strippers, close-ups of croth and anus, the orgy by back-up dancers, naked buttocks are not appropriate for children viewers. I should not have to send children out of the room when watching a football game [sic].”
“The halftime show was highly inappropriate for that time of the evening where children are viewing,” another one wrote.
JLo dismissed the complaints as “silliness” during an interview with Variety.
“Both of us are really respectful performers who are moms and have kids and are very conscious of what we do,” Lopez said.“We put on a show that I believe was a celebration of women and our Latino culture that I think was really well reserved. And that small faction of people who want to be negative about it, I can’t even let in.”
The Super Bowl takes place on the first Sunday of February and it’s become tradition for major artists to entertain spectators and viewers during half-time, with names like Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and the late Michael Jackson having graced the stage.
This year, Canadian singer The Weeknd is set to keep people entertained during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Kansas City Chiefs final.
The stands will be filled to 30% of capacity because of the pandemic.
