Justin Bieber has denounced rumours of studying towards becoming a man of the cloth. In fact, he has disowned the renowned Hillsong Church that was once such a big part of his life.

In recent Instagram Story posts, the 26-year-old addressed rumours of him entering the Hillsong ministry with a view to become a minister to possibly replace recently disgraced pastor Carl Lentz.

“I’m [sic] not studying to be a minister or anything even close to that. Have no desire for that this is fake news,” he wrote in all caps in a post over a Page Six report that alleged the news.

“And btw hillsong is not my church…for clarity I am a part of Churchome,” he added, denouncing himself from the former New York-based mega Christian church, revealing that he was now instead part of another non-denominational ministry.

According to Justin, Churchome which is also a celebrity-dominated ministry that practices remote fellowship, “Church is not a place. We are the church. We don’t need a building to connect with God. God is with us wherever we are,” he added.

The Anyone singer’s public disavowal of his former congregation comes amid Hillsong’s ongoing scandals, some of which include internal complaints of inappropriate behaviour from 2018. It’s led to the resignations of the ministry’s high-profile pastors.

Among the high-profile resignations are Reed Bogard and his wife, Jess Bogard, Vanity Fair reports.

“We just really feel that it’s time to transition off of our staff and take some time to remain healthy, get healthy, and to really see what this next season holds for us,” the pair announced in their last sermon this past Sunday.

As it stands, the Hillsong New York branch which was previously overseen by Carl remains under investigation. Justin was once incredibly close to the now-disgraced pastor.
