Lil Wayne found himself in the dog box when he endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential bid – and his girlfriend, model Denise Bidot, promptly ditched him.
The rapper posted a pic of himself with Trump last week, saying they had had a “great chat” about prison reform and the “Platinum Plan”, a Trump administration plan endorsed by fellow rapper Ice Cube, which would supposedly see billions of dollars pumped into black communities in the US.
Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done. ???? pic.twitter.com/Q9c5k1yMWf— Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) October 29, 2020
“Trump's Platinum Plan for black folks is nothing but fool’s gold because you can't bank on a word he says,” said singer John Legend at a recent rally for vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
“Now, some people see the meanness, the bullying, the selfishness of Donald Trump and they mistake it for strength, a kind of twisted masculinity,” John said. “Some see his greed and they mistake it for being good at business.”
“Some of your former favourite rappers have been taken in by these lies,” he continued.
“I think they even founded a new supergroup, it's called the Sunken Place,” referring to Jordan Peele’s horror film Get Out. Cube has since backtracked on his support.
Lil Wayne and Denise unfollowed each other on social media not long after his Trump pic post. “Sometimes love just isn’t enough,” Denise posed, along with a broken-heart emoji.
The rapper’s politics weren’t the only reason for their split, a source told Vulture.com, but it was the last straw.
“She broke up with Wayne. It wasn’t just his Trump support, but that was a big part,” the source said.
“She was shocked when she saw Wayne come out with Trump. She’s so disappointed in him.”
