It’s a letter that will bring tears to any mother’s eyes, the words drenched in pain and grief.
Lisa Marie Presley (52) poured her heart out in a post to her late son, Benjamin Keough, on what would have been his 28th birthday on Wednesday.

My beautiful beautiful angel, I worshipped the ground you walked on, on this earth and now in Heaven. My heart and soul went with you. The depth of the pain is suffocating and bottomless without you every moment of every day. I will never be the same. Please wait for me my love, and hold my hand while I stay to continue to protect and raise your little sisters and to be here for Riley. I know you would want that. Happy Birthday my sweet sweet Boy. You were much too good for this world. ????
“My beautiful, beautiful angel,” the singer-songwriter, who is the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, wrote on Instagram next to a picture of her son as he is about to blow out candles on a birthday cake.
“I worshipped the ground you walked on, on this Earth and now in heaven. My heart and soul went with you.
“The depth of the pain is suffocating and bottomless without you every moment of every day. I will never be the same.”
Benjamin, whose father is Lisa’s first husband, musician Danny Keough, shot himself in his Calabasas, California, home on 12 July after suffering from depression and other mental health issues.
She continued, “Please wait for me, my love, and hold my hand while I stay and continue to protect and raise your little sisters and to be here for Riley. I knew you would want that.
“Happy birthday my sweet boy. You were too good for this world,” she concluded.
Lisa Marie is also mom to actress Riley Keough (31) and 12-year-old twin girls Harper and Finley with her fourth husband, musician Michael Lockwood.
According to Brandon Howard, a friend of Benjamin, his pal’s depression took a turn for the worse under lockdown. He also said Benjamin struggled with the pressure of living up to the Presley name.
“That kind of pressure is definitely a part of what happened,” Howard told the Daily Mail. “It’s a tough thing when you have a lot of pressure with your family and living up to a name and an image.”
Benjamin had also reportedly been struggling with addiction and had recently left rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. According to a source, he’d been quoted as saying “growing up with Scientology messes kids up”.
Lisa was brought up as a Scientologist by her mom but left the controversial church in 2014. Priscilla left soon after.
Benjamin’s friends are now speculating that because Scientology doesn’t believe in behavioural healthcare, that may have been a factor in him not receiving proper treatment for his addiction and mental health issues.
