It’s something no family ever wants to experience – the death of a child.
But on Monday, Sharon Stone (63) shared a heartbreaking video honouring the short life of her nephew and godson, who passed away after suffering total organ failure.
“River William Stone Sept. 8, 2020 - Aug. 30, 2021,” she captioned the video.
The tear-jerking home footage showed the tot, who is the son of the actress’ younger brother Patrick and his wife Tasha, playing in his bed to the sounds of Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven.
Sharon first revealed her nephew was critically ill on 27 August when she shared a heart-breaking image of him in hospital in a neck brace and covered in tubes.
“My nephew and godson River Stone was found in his crib w total organ failure today,” she wrote. “Please pray for him. We need a miracle.”
She didn't give any details on how the condition had occurred.
Kate Hudson, Octavia Spencer, Gal Gadot and Ruby Rose were among the Hollywood stars who expressed their support, with Kate writing at the time, “Sending light and healing love”. Sadly, he died three days later.
His death led to an outpouring of grief on Sharon’s post, with many celebrities expressing their grief.
“Noooooooooooooo. I am in disbelief. Oh Sharon, there are no words, other than I'm so sorry for your whole family's loss. I am praying for all of you at this unimaginable time,” wrote Will & Grace star Debra Messing.
Messing’s co-star, Sean Hayes, also expressed his sadness. “Ugh. I’m sitting here in tears. I’m so sorry, Sharon. What a beautiful boy. Sending all my love to you and your family.”
Selma Blair wrote, “I am so sorry. My lord” – a sentiment shared by fellow actress Andie MacDowell.
Sharon herself is mom to three sons: Quinn (15), Laird (16) and Roan (21), all of whom she adopted.
Speaking about motherhood previously, she said, “It didn’t come easily, but it came lovingly to me by angels. We're a happy and lucky family. That is the credo we stand for.”
