Months before welcoming her baby boy, Rihanna gave fans a glimpse into the type of mom she'd be.

She vowed she'd be fiercely protective and “psycho about it”, warning: “You talk about my kids, it’s over.”

The new mom is certainly living up to her words. Rihanna is in such awe of her son, she barely leaves his side, an insider says.

The Diamonds hitmaker and her beau, A$AP Rocky, welcomed their first child on 13 May. They haven't made his name public yet.

A source close to the couple says the lovebirds are “doing great” and are enjoying being parents.

“Being a new parent is of course an adjustment, but they're doing great,” the insider says, adding that Rihanna, especially, enjoys being a mom.

“Their baby boy is healthy, and Rihanna is just in awe of him.

“She really was so excited to be pregnant. She loved it. Meeting her son was of course extremely special too.”

The 34-year-old star is reportedly in no rush to return to work and enjoys spending time with her baby.

“Rihanna barely leaves his side. She's a fantastic mom.

“She wanted to give birth in Los Angeles since she has a big house with a yard. She enjoys sitting outside with her baby.”

The Fenty Beauty mogul, who’s worth more than R26 billion, has teased that she has new music in the works but wouldn’t elaborate on a release date.

“I’m looking at my next project completely differently from the way I'd wanted to put it out before,” she told Vogue in April.

“I think this way suits me better, a lot better. It’s authentic, it’ll be fun for me, and it takes a lot of the pressure off.”

Meanwhile, Rihanna, who hasn’t released new music since 2016’s Anti, is expanding Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin and those product ranges will launch on local shores this week. She describes the launch of the makeup and skincare range in Africa as “really significant to me on a personal level”.

“Every launch is exciting – we’re all about being reachable to everyone, everywhere,” Rihanna says.

“But launching across Africa in eight countries not only feels really significant to me on a personal level, but is also a big step towards our goal of bringing Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin to the whole world.”

With the global expansion of her beauty business plus a newborn baby boy to devote her time and attention to, fans might just have to wait a while longer for Rihanna’s long-overdue return to music.

“I used to be in the studio, only the studio, for three months straight, and an album would come out,” she said last year when asked about creating an album.

“Now, it’s like a carousel. I do fashion one day, lingerie the next, beauty the next, then music the next. It’s like having a bunch of kids and you need to take care of them all.”
