The world first got to know them as Barack and Michelle Obama’s sweet little girls. They were the shy pre-teens with cute little pigtails, unfamiliar with being thrust onto the global stage and their dad’s newfound fame as America’s first black president.

Now we’re seeing them as confident young women intent on carving their own identities in the world. And don’t think Malia and Sasha Obama are riding on the coattails of their famous parents.

Those who know them say they work hard, put in the effort and are anything but spoilt little rich kids. Malia (23) is a writer on the new Amazon series Hive and Sasha (20) is a student at University of Southern California in the United States.
