If you're wondering why Alec Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, are adding to their family with baby number seven, the couple is offering an explanation: it’s all about expanding their capacity to love, they say.
They released a statement sharing the good news.
"One of the most beautiful things my children have experienced with a big family is how the heart can grow with every new sibling," the couple says.
"Our capacity to love continues to expand and we can’t wait to embrace our new little one this fall."
The couple are already parents to Carmen Gabriela (8), Rafael Thomas (6), Leonardo Ángel Charles (5), Romeo Alejandro David (3), Eduardo Pao Lucas (19 months) and one-year-old Lucia, whom they welcomed via a surrogate in March last year. The 63-year-old actor is also father to model Ireland Baldwin (26) with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
Alec and Hilaria (38) shared their pregnancy news in a video posted to Instagram. The video shows their kids’ excited reaction when they tell them about their new sibling.
“As you can see they are super excited!” the caption reads. “Our new baby is a very bright spot in our lives. A blessing and a gift during such uncertain times.”
After sharing the happy news, Alec posted a video of Lucia smiling and laughing. He captioned the video with, “People ask why. This is why. Being a parent is the ultimate journey.”
The 30 Rock star has often joked in the past that there are some perks that come with being an older parent. "My friend said to me, 'By the time they’re saying things that really upset you, you’ll be deaf anyway, so don’t worry',” he told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on her TV show in 2020.
“I’m practising. Even now, we’ll be having dinner and they’ll say something and I’ll be like, ‘What? What did you say? What?’ ” he added.
The family’s excitement at welcoming another “Baldwinito”, as they call their kids, is a glimmer of light after a difficult few months.
Alec is facing several lawsuits after a prop gun he was holding accidentally discharged on the set of Rust, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins (42). The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also injured in the incident.
Alec maintains he didn't pull the trigger and the gun fired on its own. He also says he was pointing it at Helena at her instruction.
It's been six months since the tragic incident, and a report into possible workplace safety violations on the set of the film, a Western, will reportedly be released later this week by the New Mexico Environment Department.
