She wasn’t the obvious pick to play the people’s princess – she was too moody, too mopey, too aloof, too samey in all her roles, critics said.

But the naysayers are eating their words now. Kristen Stewart is being tipped as a shoo-in for Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the movie Spencer and has been hailed as the finest actress ever to bring the tragic royal to life on the screen.

“Of all the people who have played Diana over the past 10 years, she’s the closest to her,” says Ken Wharfe, who served as the princess’ personal protection officer from 1989 to 1993.
