It’s not every day that a Hollywood A-lister hooks up with a regular girl, so fans were devastated when actor Zac Efron split from girlfriend Vanessa Valladares.
Ten months into their whirlwind romance, Zac has called it quits with the Australian waitress. Insiders say he broke it off after discovering she’d be appearing in a controversial new reality show. “The nail in the coffin was claims he was helping her get on it,” a source close to the actor reveals.
Zac and Vanessa hit it off after meeting at a café in Byron Bay where aspiring model Vanessa was working. A romance developed quickly and Zac wined and dined her in mansions along the beach when he wasn’t working.
The 33-year-old celeb is said to be heartbroken after it emerged in media reports that Vanessa (25) would be appearing in a new Netflix docu-soap series called Byron Bae Girls. Zac, who’s been in Oz for the production of his Netflix series, Down to Earth, sent Vanessa packing after rumours circulated he was trying to pull strings to get her on the new Netflix show.
“He's a good person who wanted a genuine, normal, down-to-earth partner,” a friend says.
Zac was “very hurt” by the headlines and he and Vanessa have now “gone their separate ways,” the friend adds. There were other signs of trouble. According to reports, the couple broke up in November last year – apparently they couldn’t handle the pressures of a long-distance relationship while Zac was in Adelaide shooting a film.
They seemed to have got over their challenges when reports emerged they were looking to buy a house together.
Vanessa was also thought to be moving to Canada with Zac after he wrapped up his filming commitments on his Netflix series.
But now, they’ve broken up and Zac’s pal says this time the split is final.
“Friends hope they can reunite, but it seems their relationship was more like a holiday romance than they cared to admit.”
