Comedian Donovan Goliath (38) is officially off the market. He and his longtime girlfriend, musical artist Davina Gordon (35), wed on 18 May – a date that also marks the fifth anniversary of their relationship.
Due to Covid-19 regulations and the threat of the third wave, the pair had few guests and no fanfare – just plenty of love. “That’s why we’re calling it our love ceremony,” Donovan says. The couple said their I do’s in Melville, Johannesburg, in the garden of Davina’s sister, Marcelle Gordon.
The bohemian enclave in the City of Gold is where they met five years ago when fellow comedian and friend Jason Goliath (no relation) introduced them at Six Cocktail Bar.
“Initially we were just going to get married in court, but it felt a little cold and impersonal,” Donovan tells YOU. “So we arranged for a marriage officiant to conduct the ceremony with Davina’s sister and brother-in-law as our witnesses.”
The funnyman and media personality had a shoot on the day of the wedding that he couldn’t cancel. It ran overtime so getting to the garden on time was a bit of a rush – but he made it. Smart in a black tuxedo, Donovan pledged his heart and his life to his beautiful bride, who glowed in a gold satin dress and matching Converse sneakers.
“The vows were definitely the most tear-jerking moment. Both Donovan and I bawled throughout,” Davina says.
The ring Donovan slipped on her finger consists of a classic emerald-cut diamond on a yellow-gold band and was designed by the comedian himself, who couldn’t wait to finally see his beloved wearing it.
The new Mr and Mrs Goliath then set off on a road trip, first to the Eastern Cape and then onto the Western Cape where their parents live.
“We haven’t seen our parents in almost a year, so we figured we’d do a small and intimate love ceremony in Joburg and then go and celebrate with them in the Cape,” Donovan says.
The newlyweds are also set to welcome their first baby, a little girl, in August this year.
“Our folks were pleasantly surprised when they first heard the baby news. It’s the first grandchild for my folks and the second grandchild for Davina’s,” Donovan says.
Seeing the ultrasound and hearing their baby’s heartbeat for the first time was surreal, he adds. And when baby makes three, it will be the cherry on top of their cake of happiness.
