Hollywood veteran John Travolta is mourning the loss of his wife following her two-year battle with breast cancer.
Former model and actress Kelly Preston succumbed to the disease aged 57 yesterday (Sunday) morning and is also survived by the couple’s daughter Ella (20) and son Benjamin (9), Daily Mail reports.
Taking to his Instagram page, 66-year-old John shared the heartbreaking news with his followers in a lengthy post with a picture of Kelly.
“It’s with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many,” John wrote.
“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Centre, all the medical centres that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side.”
In addition to this, the actor revealed he’d be, “taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while”. To which he added, “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered . . . please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
This comes after, “Choosing to keep her fight private, she
had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest
family and friends.”The pair who met during the production of The Experts in
1987 celebrated their 28th anniversary in September last year, having tied the
knot on 5 September 1991. They wed when Kelly was two months pregnant with their first
son, Jett, who sadly died in January 2009 aged 16 after suffering a seizure, Entertainment
Online reports. Kelly’s final post on Instagram was
dedicated to John on Father’s Day. “Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know,
we love you,” she captioned pictures of their family.
According to PEOPLE, a family representative revealed that, “On the morning of July 12, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer.”
