There’s no denying that Robyn Rihanna Fenty is something of a style icon.

When you think of iconic Riri looks from over the years, there's probably quite a few that spring to mind.

But one of the most iconic looks you probably thought about immediately? The Met Gala moment in 2015.

The Work singer has long established herself as queen of the Met Gala for leaning into the annual fashion event's themes and going big.

But on the night she wore one of the event's biggest and most memorable dresses ever – her Guo Pei yellow gown with its large train – she struggled to get out of the car.

During a recent interview with Access Hollywood to promote her new Fenty Skin line, the singer revealed that the larger-than-life outfit presented plenty of problems at the star-studded affair.

“That night, the choreography of getting in the car and getting out, like we had to choreograph it," she explained. “Who sits at the door? Where does the coat go? Where do I sit?”

She admitted she got extremely nervous about going out on the red carpet because she saw what everyone else was wearing and felt like she overdid it.

“I remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, 'I’m doing too much. I was driving past the red carpet, and I was just seeing like gowns, and I was like, 'Oh my god, like, I’m a clown. People are going to laugh at me. This is like, too much'.”

In fact, the performer was so wracked with nerves she very nearly didn’t make it into the event.

“I circled like, three times, I’m not even joking, and finally, I was like, 'Whatever, let’s go. Let’s just go. Let’s just go’.”

Of course, it all worked out, further cementing Rihanna’s status as a style icon and birthing countless memes.

“The frying pan with the egg? Legendary, legendary,” the superstar said of the internet’s hilarious reactions.

She might always slay the red carpet, but this isn't the first time that Rihanna has touched on the anxiety she feels before a big public event.

Speaking to British Vogue earlier this year, she explained that the nerves can be "devastating" in the moments before she arrives.

“Oh, I'm nervous before even getting in the car to go to something,” she said, adding that she finds herself “crisis breathing” in the car.

In the same interview she recalled a 2016 incident where her anxiety became so intense that she withdrew from the Grammys at the last minute while getting ready for the event.

Rihanna had been scheduled to perform Kiss It Better but just a few hours before the show started, she pulled out, with reps for the singer citing illness and the need for vocal rest at the time.

“I left the Grammys one time. Left! In the middle of my hair and makeup," she told British Vogue. "My hair half up, half of my lash on . . .”

“Being on camera, being in a room full of celebrities is still not normal for me, by the way,” she went on. “Nothing makes me feel better than being invisible.”
