Every great relationship starts with a friendship and Bridget Marshall hopes her relationship with Marc Buckner will be that.
The 31-year-old, who lives in Cape Town, tried dating apps and went on a few dates with no solid outcome.
After being unsuccessful on that front, she decided to enter the Bachelor SA as another means of finding the man of her dreams – and seeing “hunky” Marc (36) reinforced she’d made the right choice.
“I thought this was a cool way to take a chance on love, a huge chance and a huge risk and putting my heart on the line, and I thought, ‘Well, I’ve tried everything else so I might as well try this too’,” Bridget tells YOU.
The young woman, who was born and raised in Durban, hasn’t shied away from speaking on her past relationships on the show and has previously mentioned how broken her last relationship – which ended in February last year – left her.
However, she’s hoping her next relationship will pan out differently.
Growing up, Bridget has witnessed pure love unfold right in front of her eyes. Her parents, Meryl (68) and Colin (70), have been married for 46 years and she aspires to mirror their relationship.
“I’m very set in my ways in that I want a partner in life, I want to get married, I want to be with that person hopefully for the rest of my life.
“I just love how they [her parents] work together. They’ve been married for so long and I really look up to that because I think it's such a good love to have. It’s like you’re two pieces of a puzzle.
“Everything about them is just great. It’s just amazing to see that so many years later they still love each other and care for each other just as much as they did when they were in their twenties and I want to love like that,” she gushed.
In one of the episodes, Marc treated Bridget to a romantic candlelit one-on-one date, with SA muso Daniel Baron serenading them as they conversed over a glass of bubbly.
However, viewers pointed out that they thought the pair lacked chemistry – something Bridget disagrees with.
“There’s this really great friendship between the two of us. We laugh, we joke, we kind of banter.
“I feel like every great relationship, the basis is a fantastic friendship and that’s when you kind of can take it to the next level. So, hopefully, I get that spark with him because I’m certainly feeling it. I’m just hoping that he feels it too,” Bridget said.
Although she’s certain there’s chemistry between then, she wants to get to know Marc better and on a deeper level.
A memorable moment she shared with Marc was their first kiss during the cocktail party where she said he's “a very good kisser”.
“When I kissed him my heart went through the roof so I’m hoping that he also feels the same, otherwise it might not go anywhere,” she tells us.
Bridget and the dreamy bachelor share a fair amount in common, including that they’re both from Durban and well-travelled. She says that Marc would make for a great travel partner.
Her big personality might be one that people easily gravitate towards, but she wants Marc to look beyond that and really get to know her.
She has her fingers crossed that she’ll win the heart of the bachelor.
