When astronomers Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) discover a comet on a collision course with Earth they warn the world about the impending disaster, but no one, including US president Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep), takes them seriously.
This satirical comedy is director Adam McKay’s way of getting people to take climate change seriously. And Leonardo (47), who’s an environmental activist, said he loved using cinema to bring attention to an important issue.
“How do you create a sense of urgency with an issue that evolves over a century? I’ve been looking for a film about the climate crisis, but from a narrative perspective. It’s next to impossible,” he said.
