Writing can be a solitary business - but at least bestselling authors Dean Koontz, David Walliams, Karin Slaughter and Harlan Coben can count on their pets for some company.

David Walliams

The much-loved British children's author frequently shares adorable pics of his dog Ernie who he adopted last year. David also has another Border Terrier, Bert, who he dotes on.

Karin Slaughter

The publishing phenomenon loves cats so much she even lists them in her Twitter profile which reads: "Internationally bestselling thriller writer. Really like cats." Her social media feeds feature frequent shots of her own as well as other people's cats.

Jojo Moyes

The Me Before You author makes animal friends wherever she goes. Jojo recently shared this amusing pic of a parrot she befriended on her travels.

Dean Koontz

The master of suspense often posts pictures of his beloved golden retriever Elsa.

Harlan Coben

Fans of the American author on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are familiar with his pampered pooch, Laszlo.
