In Deadwater Fell, Cush Jumbo plays Jess Campbell, a schoolteacher and the best friend of a woman who dies in a house fire in a Scottish village, along with her three young children. Her friend’s husband survives the fire, but when it’s revealed the entire family was drugged, Jess is determined to uncover the truth.
The British actress (36) got her start in classical theatre and UK TV, before crossing the Atlantic to make a name for herself in The Good Wife and its spinoff, The Good Fight, as Lucca Quinn.
She signed onto Deadwater Fell, she says, “because I love thrillers and I thought the character of Jess would be interesting to play as she is the audience’s eyes and they get to watch the facts unfold together. I wanted to explore what it’s like to be a person who believes they have no control but discovers that they have more control and power than they realised”.
