CABIN FEVER

Dstv box office

Local drama. This film is set in the future and follows a family and their friends scattered across the world during a global lockdown after a second outbreak of the coronavirus.

There are also Faye’s girlfriend, Levern (Angela Lieveaux), and Kelsey’s friends, Karabo (Lesego Chabedi) and Stoan (Bonko Khoza).

Everyone is coping as best they can, staying in touch with video calls, but the strain of being alone and seeing the others struggle starts taking a toll.

Billed as the first feature film shot during lockdown, this entirely South African offering was recorded by the cast on cellphones and laptops in six international locations over 34 days.

Despite some problems – including flip-flopping between genres – Cabin Fever is still an entertaining watch, mostly due to the filming style, which adds to the intensity.

Considering the cast had no previous training in filming, they did an excellent job, which is a testament to the great direction from Safta-winning filmmaker Tim Greene (Boy Called Twist, Skeem). Worth watching.
