Hannah frowned as she approached the flat door after work. Jade was standing there with her little black spaniel, its tail whipping madly. She was holding a tissue. Her eyes were red, tearful.
“Am I glad to see you,” her best friend blurted. “I’ve dropped an almighty clanger. I’ve somehow managed to . . .”
“Whoa, steady on.” Hannah put an arm around the slim blonde’s shoulders while she unlocked the door. “You can tell me about it when we’re inside.”
