My parents have been friends with my fiancé’s parents for a very long time. His parents are very affluent and from our nursery school days they told my parents they want me as their daughter-in-law.

They also paid for my fees at a private school and my ballet classes, almost as if I was their daughter. I wasn’t really allowed to go out with other boys and when it came to varsity they also paid for my studies.

I’m now a qualified professional and I love my fiancé’s parents like my own. But I’ve realised that my love for him is that of a sister. He’s like a brother to me – not a man that I want to marry and have children with.
