Would you like your family to eat more fruit and veggies? These delicious desserts from Mokgadi Itsweng’s debut cookbook, Veggielicious, celebrate the garden in all its glory

Summer smoothie bowl

This is my favourite breakfast for hot mornings, when you need something cooling but also full of goodness and packed with nutrients, to sustain you all day.

TIP The granola can be stored for up to three months in an airtight jar.

Berry clafouti

I love all berries and use a mix for this recipe. Any seasonal fruit – fresh, frozen or canned – will work well. The choice of berries is totally up to you.

Lemon cheese pots

These 10-minute cheesecakes are the ones to make when you need something creamy and sweet in a hurry.

Baked custard and fruit tart

This tart is vegan and uses plant milk for a smooth and creamy custard filling. I top it with fresh fruit, but you can leave the fruit out if you wish. Without the fruit topping, it makes a great plant-based version of a milk tart.

Coconut and berry bars

These five-ingredient bars are quick and easy to make. They’re the perfect way to take care of your sweet cravings!

Chia and guava pudding

My love for guavas comes from my gogo in Umlazi. She had a big guava tree in her yard, which was a real joy for me growing up.

That tree gave us shade from the humidity and heat of Durban, and delicious fruit that we picked ourselves, some of which my granny canned in sweet vanilla syrup. This dessert captures the scent of Durban summers for me.
