1. Heat some butter or oil in a pan and fry the onions until soft. Add the sugar and vinegar and simmer over low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the onions are sweet and sticky. Set aside to cool.

2. Chop the biltong finely with your most aggressive, biggest and sharpest knife. If you don’t have a knife that in any way fits this descrip­tion, buy one.
