You haven’t set foot in the office for months and have instead been doing all your work from home. So does this mean you can claim certain expenses back from the taxman?

It depends, says Suzanne Marais, a chartered accountant from Cape Town.

According to the Income Tax Act (ITA), certain expenses are tax deductible. But you need to meet certain legal requirements. These requirements apply whether you’ve always worked from home, whether you work flexible hours or because you’ve had to temporarily work from home due to lockdown.
